Social support and hugs, a recent study suggest, may help you stave off an infection. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and other institutions tracked the stress levels, social support, and number of hugs received by 404 volunteers for two weeks, then exposed them to a cold virus. Stressed people who received hugs regularly were roughly 60 percent less likely to get sick.
